Rationale
Preparedness for any emergency and
correct procedures to follow are essential requirements for the welfare
and safety of our students and staff.
Aim
To prepare both staff and students to cope with any emergency.
Purposes
- To establish clearly defined procedures to be followed in the event of an emergency.
- To ensure that the safety of
students and staff is adequately provided for in the event of an
emergency, ie: fire, earthquake, flood
- To ensure students and staff are:
(a) fully informed
(b) able to carry out established emergency procedures.
Procedures
- Students and staff will be required to learn set procedures for safety measures to be followed.
- Regular emergency drills will be held throughout the year.
- Teachers will be primarily responsible for the welfare and safety of students in the event of an emergency.
- The Principal has overall responsibility for decisions affecting the welfare and safety of students and staff.
- Refer to document “Emergency Procedures” for specific directions.
Conclusion
Knowing what to do in an emergency
needs to be learned and practised at regular intervals. Sound
contingency plans need to be established.
