Rationale
Generic and individual job
descriptions allow for effective communication of what is expected of
anyone who performs tasks, within our organisation. This will apply for
both salaried and non-salaried positions. They will embody the
principles of both statutes and awards, as well as any other charter
requirements.
Purpose
- To give clear information to employees about the requirements of their particular tasks.
- To share responsibilities in an appropriate manner so that these responsibilities will be performed the most effectively.
- To enhance the employee’s awareness of the overall tasks of the position and therefore improve effectiveness.
- To give clear guidelines under which any appraisal process would be undertaken.
Broad Guidelines
- All job titles will be gender neutral.
- Job descriptions will include:
- A summary statement of the job
- A detailed description of the tasks associated with the job.
- An outline of working relationships.
- An outline of working conditions.
- Conditions of service where appropriate.
- NEGS and NAGS should be reflected in job descriptions where appropriate.
- Job descriptions will be written for Principal, Deputy Principal, and Support Staff.
- Job descriptions will be reviewed as part of the appraisal process.
- The school has one generic teacher standard to cover all generalised aspects of the teaching positions
- Each teacher will sign a personal performance agreement at the beginning of the school year.
- Specific aspects of each teacher’s job will be agreed upon at the beginning of the school year.
Implementation Plan
- The Chairman and the Board will
review the job description for the Principal, including in their
discussions the opinions of the staff of the school.
- The Principal will review the job descriptions of the professional staff in consultation with the appropriate staff member.
- The Principal will review the job descriptions for the ancillary staff.
- All job descriptions will be signed by both parties.

Job descriptions allow for the focussed appointment of staff to meet the needs of the school. |
