JOB DESCRIPTIONS – GENERIC & INDIVIDUAL

PR-6-6

PROCEDURAL DOCUMENT

Effective Date: 10-Mar-08

Rationale

Generic and individual job descriptions allow for effective communication of what is expected of anyone who performs tasks, within our organisation.  This will apply for both salaried and non-salaried positions.  They will embody the principles of both statutes and awards, as well as any other charter requirements.

Purpose

  1. To give clear information to employees about the requirements of their particular tasks.
  2. To share responsibilities in an appropriate manner so that these responsibilities will be performed the most effectively.
  3. To enhance the employee’s awareness of the overall tasks of the position and therefore improve effectiveness.
  4. To give clear guidelines under which any appraisal process would be undertaken.

Broad Guidelines

  1. All job titles will be gender neutral.
  2. Job descriptions will include:
    1. A summary statement of the job
    2. A detailed description of the tasks associated with the job.
    3. An outline of working relationships.
    4. An outline of working conditions.
    5. Conditions of service where appropriate.
  3. NEGS and NAGS should be reflected in job descriptions where appropriate.
  4. Job descriptions will be written for Principal, Deputy Principal, and Support Staff.
  5. Job descriptions will be reviewed as part of the appraisal process.
  6. The school has one generic teacher standard to cover all generalised aspects of the teaching positions
  7. Each teacher will sign a personal performance agreement at the beginning of the school year.
  8. Specific aspects of each teacher’s job will be agreed upon at the beginning of the school year.

Implementation Plan

  1. The Chairman and the Board will review the job description for the Principal, including in their discussions the opinions of the staff of the school.
  2. The Principal will review the job descriptions of the professional staff in consultation with the appropriate staff member.
  3. The Principal will review the job descriptions for the ancillary staff.
  4. All job descriptions will be signed by both parties.

Conclusion

Job descriptions allow for the focussed appointment of staff to meet the needs of the school.
