INTERACTION BETWEEN STUDENTS & ADULTS INVOLVED IN SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
PR-5-8
PROCEDURAL DOCUMENT
Effective Date: 4 September 2012
Rationale
To establish a standard of behaviour acceptable to both Board of Trustees and Staff for those involved in any school activity.
To encourage and promote opportunities for community involvement in school activities.
To ensure that professional standards are maintained.
Behaviour will be governed by the following code of ethics.
Code of Ethics
Any participation is seen as a position of trust.
Unacceptable
behaviour from adults will result in them being asked to leave the
vicinity of the class or area. Unacceptable behaviour could include -
- inappropriate language (swearing)
- putdowns - loud, negative comments
- inappropriate touching
While
accepting that discipline must be maintained at all times, it must be
done in a positive way so the enjoyment of the occasion is not lost.
Consumption
of alcohol and drugs will not be permitted when an adult is responsible
for students in a school activity. Smoking will be allowed when the
person is not actively supervising students and is out of students field
of vision view and where allowed must be done discreetly.
At
all times personnel will pursue practices and exhibit conduct that
prevent them from being vulnerable to allegations of indecency or child
abuse.
Any person
involved with any interaction with students may be asked to read and
sign this policy in the presence of the Principal and in doing so agree
to abide by this code of ethics.
