Rationale
The
Arts permeate our everyday lives and serve a variety of purposes. They
enable us to understand ourselves, the people around us, and the world
in which we live. The Arts are the expression of ideas, feelings and
human experience through movement, sound, and visual images. (See
Curriculum – Page 20, Paragraph 2 , Arts à Cultures.)
Purpose
- To engage the senses, imagination, thinking, and feelings through drama, music, dance and visual arts.
- To explore, challenge, affirm and
celebrate artistic and aesthetic expressions of self, community,
culture, and our unique environment.
Assessment
Assessment will be based on success in the four interrelated strands:
- Understanding the Arts in Context
- Developing Practical Knowledge
- Developing Ideas
- Communicating and Interpreting
Conclusion
Students will appreciate that The Arts
are a part of everyday life. They help us solve problems and express
our emotions, moods and ideas. Students practise skills, explore
techniques, contribute ideas, and respond to a variety of forms, both
past and present.
