PROCEDURAL
DOCUMENT
Effective date: 14-Aug-07
Rationale
Mathematics is an important part of
learning. We develop Mathematical skills, concepts and strategies through
meaningful contexts to help students understand and see the relevance and use
of mathematics in their everyday lives. Mathematics and Statistics are related
but different ways of thinking and of solving problems. Both disciplines equip
students with effective means for investigating, interpreting, explaining, and
making sense of the world in which they live.
Purpose
By studying mathematics and statistics,
students develop the ability to think creatively, critically, strategically,
and logically. They learn to structure and organise, to carry out procedures
flexibly and accurately, to process and communicate information and to enjoy
intellectual challenge.
Assessment
Refer to the Planning and Assessment
Procedural Document.
Conclusion
Our students will be confident with
using strategies, skills and concepts to solve problems in a variety of real
life contexts, and to transfer this knowledge and understanding and make
connections in everyday situations.
