MAORI LANGUAGE

PR-2-14

PROCEDURAL DOCUMENT

Effective Date: 10-April-2017

Rationale

Te Reo and Tikanga are taught because all aspects are important to our identity and culture.

We honour the Treaty of Waitangi by ensuring Taha Maori has an important place in our curriculum.  By integrating Te Reo and Tikanga into our curriculum, we are removing potential barriers to learning that some Maori students face.

Purpose

Through integrated learning in Te Reo and Tikanga Maori, our students will:

·        understand and value all aspects of Maori culture and the place it holds in the development of New Zealand as a nation.

·
be aware of the protocols of Tikanga Maori.

·
see that all teachers value the Treaty of Waitangi in all aspects of learning and integrate Te Reo into the curriculum.

Conclusion

That we meet our obligations under the Treaty of Waitangi, and that we effectively encourage the integration of Te Reo and Tikanga through the curriculum.
