Rationale
The focus in Health and PE is on student well-being, the well-being of other people, and of society, through learning in health-related and movement contexts. Four interdependent concepts are at the heart of this learning area (NZ Curriculum, Page 22):
- Hauora,
- Attitudes and values,
- Socio-ecological perspective
- Health promotion
Purpose
Through learning in health and physical education students will:
- accept challenges in health-related and movement contexts.
- reflect on the nature of well-being and how to promote it.
- develop resilience and a sense of personal responsibility.
- contribute to the well being of those around them, their community, environment and society.
Assessment
Refer to Integrated Curriculum Procedural Document (PR-2-33) and the Planning and Assessment procedural document (PR-2-3).
Conclusion
When the school community works together, this learning area makes a significant contribution to the well-being of students beyond the classroom, and to their resilience in facing new challenges. |
